Fence Repair Murfreesboro TN - Posts & Storm Damage

Most fence damage around here comes from a few causes: a limb comes down in a storm, a mower clips a post, a dog digs under a corner, or a post rots off at the ground after years in wet clay. The good news is that most of it can be fixed without replacing the whole fence. We repair what's worth repairing and tell you plainly when it isn't.

Repairs We Handle

Wood fence post rotted off at the soil line in red clay, Murfreesboro, TN

Leaning and Rotted Posts

A fence leans because a post has rotted at grade or was never set deep enough. We dig out the old footing, set a new ground-contact-rated or steel post in concrete over gravel, and re-hang the rails. Sometimes we can sister a steel post beside a sound wood one instead. HomeGuide's national guide puts damaged post repair at $250 to $600 per post and leaning sections at $200 to $800.

Broken Pickets, Rails and Panels

We replace boards and rails to match, or as close as weathered wood allows. Damaged vinyl panels get swapped. HomeGuide prices a single-board repair at $100 to $300 and typical repairs like a panel or a post at $300 to $900.

Storm and Tree Damage

After a limb falls, the hidden damage is often a cracked post or a footing pulled out of the ground. We check the posts on either side of the hit, not just the section that's down. HomeGuide lists fallen-fence repairs at $300 to $1,500.

Chain Link, Vinyl and Iron

Each material has its own repairs. We re-stretch sagging chain link, replace bent top rail and reset terminal posts. We replace cracked vinyl rails and posts, and we cut out rusted iron and weld in new pieces. HomeGuide's national per-foot ranges are $10 to $20 for chain link, $25 to $45 for vinyl and $30 to $60 for wrought iron.

Permits and Your Responsibilities

Inside Murfreesboro city limits, the City treats repairs like replacing fence sections, minor repairs, sealing and painting as normal maintenance that doesn't need a permit. Taking a fence down and building a new one does need a permit. In unincorporated Rutherford County, the fence ordinance makes the owner responsible for keeping a fence in good repair. If a fence has broken or missing structural parts, or leans well out of plumb, the County's Director of Building and Codes can order it repaired, replaced or removed.

Repair or Replace?

Our rule of thumb: when most of the posts are loose or rotted at the ground, repairs start chasing each other down the line, and replacement is the better spend. We'll show you what we find at the posts, which is where the answer is, and price both ways if it's close. For a new wood fence, see wood privacy fence.

Gate problems? See gate repair. If the fence is sound but weathered, see fence staining.
