Dog Fence Murfreesboro TN - Pet Fencing for Diggers

Every dog has its own way out. One digs under the corner by the shed, another clears 4 feet from a standstill, and a beagle follows its nose through any gap a child left open. So we start a dog fence by asking what your dog actually does, then build for that escape route instead of just quoting footage.

  • We walk your property line before we quote
  • Posts, panels, gates and hardware priced line by line
  • Residential, commercial and farm fencing
  • City permit or County affidavit handled up front

Match the Fence to the Escape Artist

Diggers

A bottom rail held tight to the grade helps, but determined diggers need more. We bury a welded-wire apron along the inside of the fence line, or run wire down into the ground below the bottom rail, so a dog that starts digging hits wire. In our red clay, a fresh hole along a fence line can turn into a mud trench after one storm. Stopping digging early also protects the posts.

Jumpers and Climbers

Athletic breeds need 6 feet, and climbers need a surface with no footholds. Chain link's diamonds work like a ladder for some dogs. A smooth-faced wood privacy fence or vinyl panel, with the rails on your side, gives them nothing to grip.

Small Dogs and Squeezers

Little dogs fit through gaps you wouldn't notice. Puppy-picket aluminum fence panels add short pickets across the bottom, and picket fences can be built with tighter spacing.

Fence-Fighters and Barkers

A dog that runs the line barking at every walker often calms down when it can't see through. A solid privacy fence usually helps more than a taller see-through one.

Dog Runs and Kennel Areas

When you only want part of the yard for the dog, a 5- or 6-foot chain link run off the back door is the most economical setup. HomeGuide prices chain link at $10 to $40 per linear foot installed nationally. Add a gate wide enough for a mower and slats if the neighbors' dog sets yours off.

Gates Are Where Dogs Get Out

Most escapes happen at the gate, not over the fence. We hang dog-yard gates with self-closing hinges and gravity or magnetic latches, so the gate shuts behind kids and lawn crews. We also set gate posts heavy enough that the gate doesn't sag and leave a gap at the bottom. If a gate has to stay locked, we add a latch that takes a padlock.

Physical Fence or Invisible Fence?

We build physical fences. Underground "invisible" systems use a buried wire and a collar, and HomeGuide's national guide puts them at $800 to $2,800 installed. They don't keep other animals out, and a dog chasing something can run through the correction. Also note that in unincorporated Rutherford County, the fence ordinance prohibits fences carrying electrical current except for enclosing livestock. A hot wire along the top of a backyard fence for a dog isn't allowed there.
