Chain Link Fence Murfreesboro TN - Black & Galvanized
Chain link is the cheapest way to fence a lot of ground, and it's tougher than it gets credit for. It works for a big backyard, a dog run, a side lot or a garden kept away from deer. The look has improved, too. Black vinyl-coated fabric with black posts nearly disappears against a tree line, which bare galvanized wire never will.
Silver zinc-coated fabric is the most economical option. HomeGuide's national guide prices installed chain link at $10 to $40 per linear foot. A 4-foot front-yard height runs $10 to $20, 6 feet $13 to $30, and 8 feet $20 to $40.
Black Vinyl-Coated Chain Link
The PVC coating covers the steel and adds rust protection. HomeGuide lists vinyl-coated chain link at $30 to $60 per linear foot installed, and its black chain link guide notes that residential mesh is typically 9 to 12 gauge in a 2-inch diamond. Lower gauge numbers mean thicker wire, so ask which gauge you're getting.
Privacy Slats
Slats woven through the diamonds give you partial screening without a new fence. HomeGuide puts slats at $5 to $18 per linear foot for materials and labor.
How We Build It So It Stays Tight
A saggy chain link fence nearly always started with a leaning end post. Corner, end and gate posts carry the pull of the stretched fabric, so they're heavier pipe, braced and set deeper than line posts. HomeGuide notes that posts generally go every 6 to 10 feet. A top rail or bottom tension wire keeps the fabric from bellying out when a dog leans on it. We follow ASTM F567, the standard practice for chain link installation, for post setting, bracing, tension wire and gates.
Chain Link Rules in Murfreesboro and Rutherford County
In unincorporated Rutherford County, chain link is a permitted fence type in every zoning district. It also counts as transparent construction, so it can go inside the required front setback, where solid privacy fence can't.
HOA covenants are a different story. Many subdivisions restrict chain link or limit it to back yards, and both the City and the County say covenants are outside their review. Send us your HOA's fence rules before we quote.
Around a pool, a standard 2-inch diamond is too open. Rutherford County's barrier rules cap chain link openings at 1¾ inches, or require slats fastened top and bottom that bring the openings down to that size. See pool fence.
When the fabric is rusted through or the posts have heaved, replacement usually beats patching. HomeGuide's national figure for old fence removal is $3 to $5 per linear foot. If your fence just has a bent rail or one leaning post, our fence repair page is the place to start.
