Security Fence Murfreesboro TN - Cantilever Gates & Wire

Equipment yards, contractor lots, self-storage, utility sites and warehouses don't need a pretty fence. They need one that's hard to climb, hard to cut and hard to drive through, with a gate that opens reliably for trucks in any weather. That's a different build from a backyard fence, starting with heavier posts and ending with the gate.

Security Fence Types

Barbed-wire arms on top of a tall galvanized chain link fence, Murfreesboro, TN

Tall Chain Link With Barbed-Wire Arms

Commercial-gauge chain link at 6 to 8 feet or more, with angled arms carrying three strands of barbed wire along the top. HomeGuide's national guide puts a barbed-wire arm extension at $2.00 to $3.25 per linear foot installed. For the base fence, see our chain link fence page.

Concertina razor wire on chain link around a utility pump station, Murfreesboro, TN

Razor Wire (Concertina)

Coiled razor wire on top of the fence for sites that need a stronger deterrent. HomeGuide lists concertina razor wire at $0.65 to $2.20 per linear foot installed.

Green steel palisade fence along a warehouse frontage, Murfreesboro, TN

Steel Palisade and Welded Panels

Vertical steel pales or welded-mesh panels are much harder to climb or cut than chain link and look more finished on a frontage. HomeGuide puts steel palisade at $30 to $80 per linear foot installed for fencing up to 8 feet tall.

Where Barbed and Razor Wire Are Allowed

In unincorporated Rutherford County, the fence ordinance prohibits fences built with or topped by barbed or razor wire, including concertina, except for agricultural uses, non-residential property, and public institutions serving public safety or special services. It's an option for a business yard and off the table for a house. Commercial and industrial fences can reach 15 feet, but stay at 6 feet or under between the building and the street right-of-way. Inside city limits, check with the City before you plan wire on top. We didn't find a City rule we could cite here, so we'll confirm it for your site.

Cantilever Slide Gates

A cantilever gate rolls on carriages bolted to its support posts and hangs clear of the ground across the opening. With no track on the ground, there's nothing for gravel, mud, leaves or ice to jam. HomeGuide's chain link guide lists commercial cantilever gates from 6 to 30 feet wide at $1,200 to $3,000 or more before installation. Its black chain link guide puts vinyl-coated commercial rolling gates at $1,400 to $3,000 installed. A fully equipped commercial security gate runs $5,000 to $15,000 or more, according to HomeGuide's security gate guide.

Motorized slide gates have specific safety rules. DASMA's installer checklist calls for screening the gate so a 2¼-inch sphere can't pass through, up to the top of the gate or 72 inches, whichever is less. It also calls for covers on weight-bearing rollers 8 feet or lower, protected entrapment zones, and a separate pedestrian gate. Keypads, card readers and exit loops are covered on gate openers and access control.
