The Safety Rules We Install To
Every operator we install carries a listing label showing it meets ANSI/CAN/UL 325, and the gate it moves should be built to ASTM F2200. The Door & Access Systems Manufacturers Association's installer checklist is what we work from. Among other things, it calls for:
- Protecting every entrapment zone with contact or non-contact sensors, such as edge sensors or photo eyes.
- Testing that the gate stops and reverses at least 2 inches after it contacts an object.
- Screening slide gates from the bottom up to the top of the gate or 72 inches, whichever is less, so a 2¼-inch sphere can't pass through, and covering weight-bearing rollers 8 feet or lower.
- Providing a separate pedestrian gate wherever people walk through.
- Mounting warning signs on both sides, and keeping controls off the operator and at least 6 feet from the gate.
- Showing you how to use the manual release before we leave.
That's also why we won't motorize every gate. If an existing gate sags, drags or wasn't built to F2200, it gets fixed or rebuilt first. See driveway gates and gate repair.
